PV Sindhu, Sameer Verma enter Korea Open badminton quarter-finals with easy win
Seoul: Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and Sameer Verma won their respective matches Thursday to enter the quarterfinals of Korea Open Badminton. In the second round, Sindhu defeated Nicholan Jindapol of Thailand 22-20, 21-17 in 42 minutes. With this win, Sindhu has registered his career 2-1 against Jindapol.but Parupalli Kashyap bowed out of the USD 600,000 Korea Open badminton following a narrow defeat in the second round.
In the world ranking, the fourth player of the world was ahead in the first game 20-16 ahead against the Thai player of the 16th ranking, but Zindapale equalized 20-20. Sindhu won two consecutive points to win the first game 22-20. In the second game, Sindhu made an 18-15 lead after the 15-15 draw and then ended the game and match from 21-17 with three consecutive points on 18-17. In the quarter-finals, Sindhu will take on Japan’s Minatsu Mitali.
Sameer Verma beat Wong Wing of Hong Kong 21-19, 21-13 in 42 minutes. Sameer will face the challenge of world number one player and top seed Korea’s Son Van Ho, who defeated Parupalli Kashyap of India 21-16, 17-21, 21-16 in one hour and 17 minutes.
